Childhood
Elvis has always been part of Richard’s life. His mother Pat, brought up her four children listening to the music of ‘The King’. It was part of their daily lives to hear Elvis on the turntable. From an early age, Richard's sister Diyane recognised her brother had a voice that bore an amazing resemblance to Elvis and encouraged him to take up a musical career. At the age of eighteen Richard made his first stage appearance singing the Elvis classic ‘Love Me Tender’ and although his nerves were on edge at the prospect of singing in public, he impressed the audience and promoter so much that he was re-booked immediately. Teenage time It wasn’t until the death of Elvis Presley that Richard finally made his mind up to concentrate on a musical career, following P.J. Proby’s performance in ‘Elvis The Musical’. Richard joined a band called Revival’ covering songs by artistes such as Tom Jones, Billy Fury, Tony Christie and The Beatles but found his true potential pay in his performance as Elvis. North Florida. USA Several years later, after playing the club circuit throughout England, Richard went to North Florida, USA where he performed solo Elvis shows, billed as ‘The English Elvis’. His tracks were played on Power Country Radio and his popularity grew over night. |
Rockin' On Heaven's Door
It was in early 1997, after Richard had returned from America and was performing at a venue in South Woodford, London when he was approached to become a founder member of a new show, featuring Elvis, Roy Orbison, Buddy and Eddie Cochran. That show was ‘Rockin' On Heaven's Door' a show that has evolved into a household name over the past ten years since its conception.
T.v. shows
Richard’s many television appearances include, The Gerry Kelly New Year’s Eve Special for Ulster TV, GMTV, ITV1, East Anglian regional television programme ‘The Ticket’ as well as BBC radio.
The Jordanaires
Richard has also had the honour of singing with Elvis’s backing group The Jordanaires at one of the major Elvis conventions in America.
Richard as E.T.A.
As anyone who knows him will confirm, Richard’s attention to detail is legendary; the music is always right, the look, even his suits are tailored for him and flown over from America. But despite his outstanding success, Richard keeps his feet planted firmly on the ground. “I’ve been very lucky so far in my career. I always try to give my best every night and the people like what they see. There will never be another Elvis but if I can keep his memory alive and introduce another generation to his music, that’s good enough for me…”
